Dental Implant Cost Factors

Dental implant cost is determined by a number of factors including its purpose, the number of implants, and what "extras" are included with it.

Keep in mind that with implants, there are basically three costs that influence the dental implant cost:

  • The cost of the implant itself
  • The cost of the restoration of the tooth that is to be inserted into the implant.
  • Location - i.e., the cost of an implant in Northern California may be triple the cost of the same implant in Peoria, Illinois.

Dental Implant Cost - Examples

In some situations, the tooth exists, but there is no root to support it. In this case, the purpose of the implant is to replace a root and support the existing tooth. The implant is placed into the jaw beneath the tooth and supports it. The dental implant cost of this would typically be around $1500 to $2000.

Another situation is where a tooth is missing entirely. In this situation, the implant is inserted into the jaw, a tooth is molded to specifications, and a crown is added. For this, the entire dental implant cost (with tooth and crown) would probably cost you around $3500-$4000, depending on the dentist and area of the country.

In still other situations, especially where serious gum problems exist, a number of teeth may be missing. In that case, the dental implant cost could go to well over $20,000.

Complexities such as having to perform bone or gum restoration can increase the price even more. In addition, your age, your health and your medical history can determine if you're even a candidate for dental implant surgery.

The point is, there is no flat dental implant cost that you can rely on. It all depends.

In fact, many dentists who provide dental implants, also provide financing for it because most insurance companies don't cover implant procedures.

Dental Implant Cost Effectiveness

Once the implant is put it, it takes about a year until the bone solidifies around that tooth. Before that solidification takes place, there may be additional problems with that tooth. You want to be sure that those problems will be handled by your dentist without additional costs or only reasonable costs on your part. That's why some dentists will offer a 1 year warranty on any problems with the implant that may occur during that year.

Dental implants offer a more or less permanent solution for missing teeth. In fact, many will end up lasting longer than the person's real teeth.

And implants can be expensive - which is why many end up choosing alternative methods. But for those who are tired of the continuous bridge adjustments, gum soreness, and other problems caused by the usual dentures and partials, the price may be more than worth it.

Dental Hygine Career
Those looking to enter the field of dentistry and have a dental hygine career will be entering a profession that is growing fast. The starting salary for a dental hygienist is typically around $45,000.

Dental Braces Care
Many dental insurance plans don't cover orthodontic care such as braces, making dental braces care even more important since the expenses for brace replacement will be coming directly out of your pocket.
